COVID-19 Medical Advisory Committee

We believe strongly in making decisions during the COVID-19 era based in science and data in collaboration with school officials and medical professionals. We have developed a SPS Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) consisting of the board of health director, town nurse, school nurse leader, school physician, town pediatrician, high school nurse, executive secretary to the superintendent, human resource director, director of business and finance and superintendent to meet weekly (and as necessary) to discuss our policies, protocols and to develop and monitor a metric for reopening and potential closing of schools as well as decisions to move between learning models (in-person, hybrid, fully remote).

The committee presented the metric and process for building openings, closings and transition between models to the school committee on Monday September 14, 2020. The decision making process will include the Massachusetts Department of Health (DPH) Color Coded Health Metric (HERE), town of Scituate and state Department of Health data and guidance, percent Covid-19 positivity rate, trajectory of Covid-19 cases, individual school/district data and geographical data.

The MAC presentation to school committee can be found HERE.

Finally, the MAC will be communicating weekly via the Thursday Thoughts to ensure transparency in the process. Our first communication is below.
