The goal of Jenkins Food & Nutrition Services Department is to advance the overall health of school-age children by promoting healthy and nutritional food choices at every grade level while maintaining compliance with the USDA food guidelines. These guidelines include whole grain breads, cereal & pasta, a variety of raw & cooked vegetables and canned & fresh fruits. Fat-free and low-fat milks are offered as well as Lactaid milk for lactose intolerant children. All beef and chicken products are baked or steamed. Additionally, all beef products are rinsed after cooking and the skin is removed from raw chicken and turkey products before cooking. The Food & Nutrition staff is committed to helping all school-age children make healthier food choices by offering at least 2-3 comprehensive entrée choices daily. The staff also supervises the purchase of a la carte snack items to ensure children have the best opportunities for well-balanced diets. We can only move forward with the continued collaboration of Health & Wellness and Health Services faculty. Additionally, feedback from families regarding food offerings is always welcome. The value of families reinforcing the advantages of healthy eating habits and good nutrition cannot be understated. We truly appreciate your support.
